Hey, I just rendered a project, session 875. I was wondering if it is acceptable for me to use this video in my tutorial on how to make it on my website if there are ads? i\'m not selling the video, but I am making money when people view the tutorial.

If you only link back to the session page at BURP rather than having the actual video output on the page then it\'s no problem.

If the video is on the page (in an embedded player) then I guess we are in a greyzone. Personally I think it\'s silly to consider it commercial - since the main focus is the tutorial rather than the video - but on a theoretical level I guess it is still somewhat commercial. Since it is better to avoid any trouble I would suggest you to use a link such as this instead:

http://burp.boinc.dk/session.php?id=875&frame=541

By the way, BURP will have to support more than the current very restrictive license in the long run. A multiple license system is being introduced in the next version of the server software but the legal paperwork is still in progress.

is there a way I can link to the video? that link is to a frame, I am looking for a video... I love burp, and in every post about about blender work that I do I try to mention BURP, so if it clear that burp was used does that change anything?

Hehe no that\'s fine. You can link directly to the video download on that page like this:
http://burp.boinc.dk/session.php?id=875&frame=541#downloadraw
or you can link to the actual files on the mirrors like this (for different qualities):
http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?getfile=/sessions/875/produced/s000875_movie_mpeg4_q50.avi
http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?getfile=/sessions/875/produced/s000875_movie_mpeg4_q85.avi

but if I wanted to embed the video should I use the \"Download\" link:

http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?fetch=true&mirid=212&getid=18148#!md5!14a6e3ec127e1d045bc9c48d09aa3520#!metalink!http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?fetch=true&mirid=106&getid=18148#!metalink!http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?fetch=true&mirid=161&getid=18148#!metalink!http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?fetch=true&mirid=175&getid=18148#!metalink!http://burp.boinc.dk/mirror/mirror_download.php?fetch=true&mirid=390&getid=18148#!metalink!magnet:?xt=urn:sha1:366cc329a62093b318a08424273a0a2dc6b553f2

or does that defeat the purpose because if i did that then the user wouldn\'t be able to see that it is on the burp web-page?

[snip]

No, the download link is a direct link to one of our mirrors. Using this is bad for several reasons:
1) The link is temporary and contains two identifiers which may change over time. First of all the mirror that is linked does not necessarily contain the file forever - perhaps the file is moved to another mirror or the mirror stops being a mirror. Secondly the fileID may change, so whatever file 18148 is today may be a different file in a few months from now.
As is said on the mirror page you should always link to that page rather than directly to one of our mirrors. We are not trying to be mean or anything, it\'s just because the mirror page is designed to be permanent whereas the actual mirror links (the download links) are not.
2) It\'s a very long link since it contains meta information

or does that defeat the purpose because if i did that then the user wouldn\'t be able to see that it is on the burp web-page?

Well, the (potential) problem was that you would receive money if someone visited the page and viewed the video. By not having the video directly on the page you could avoid that.
