This is a temporary FAQ that will probably be re-written as a proper webpage when the project reaches Alpha or Beta status. Until then, the main body of the FAQ will be in this post, but if you need questions answered you can post them below.

1) Q- How do I sign up?
A- Go to create account, fill in the form. Wait for the confirmation e-mail, download the boinc client, install it, and attach to project url http://burp.boinc.dk with user id

2) Q- I'm not getting a confirmation e-mail
A- Make sure it isn't getting filtered out as junk mail!

3) Q- How do I upload a file to be rendered?
A- At the moment you <i>can</i> upload files using the 'submit session' link, however you cannot activate the render as there is no place to view the files. This will be fixed as soon as a gallery has been designed.

4) Q- <i>windows</i> How come a command prompt box keeps flashing up?
A- This is created by blender itself and will be looked into at the next Blender release (probably 12-7-04) because it is programmed into blender itself and there is no point in re-writing the code twice in such a short time.

5) Q- How come my CPU time doesn't calculate properly?
A- This is also related to (3) and will probably be fixed around the same time.

6) Q- How come the renders don't pause when I suspend the boinc client?
A- This is also related to (3), and will again be fixed shortly

7) Q- I keep getting calculation errors! Why is this?
A- This is probably because the input file has the 'AVI' output file selected- ALL INPUT FILES <i>MUST</i> BE SET TO .PNG OUTPUT

8) Q- I get the error: <i>WU download error: couldn't get input files:</i>
A- This is a server side problem where boinc deletes the input file too early. A fix will be written soon.

9) Q- I keep getting 'project down' errors when I try to connect to the server!
A- This is because the project is still in pre-alpha and lots of work is being done on the server. Just wait a bit and try again.

Keeping this up to date (kinda)

1) Q- How do I sign up?
A- Go to create account, fill in the form. Wait for the confirmation e-mail, download the boinc client, install it, and attach to project url http://burp.boinc.dk with user id

2) Q- I'm not getting a confirmation e-mail
A- Make sure it isn't getting filtered out as junk mail!

3) Q- How do I upload a file to be rendered?
A- At the moment you can<b>not</b> upload files using the 'submit session' link as that has been removed. When this project is in beta stage you will (probably) be able to submit files.

4) Q- windows How come a command prompt box keeps flashing up?
A- This is created by blender itself and is being looked into: <a href="http://burp.boinc.dk/forum_thread.php?id=102">this thread</a>. DO NOT CLOSE THAT BOX!!!

5) Q- I keep getting calculation errors! Why is this?
A- BURP DOES NOT SUPPORT PAUSING!!! Do not: allow another project to pause burp, close the command prompt box, pause burp by having it set to pause when user is active or any other type of pausing. This <b><i>will</i></b> cause a computational error.

6) Q- I keep getting 'project down' errors when I try to connect to the server!
A- This is because the project is still in pre-alpha and lots of work is being done on the server. Just wait a bit and try again.

7) Q- My wu's are refusing to upload
A- This is being investigated in <a href="http://burp.boinc.dk/forum_thread.php?id=106">this thread</a>. If you have anything to add that has not already been said, please do.

8) Q- You haven't answered my question
A- Read <a href="http://burp.boinc.dk/forum_thread.php?id=101">this thread</a>.

A few new FAQ questions

- What kind of files will we be able to upload for rendering? (Blender, Cinema4D, StudioMax)

At the moment Blender is the only available application. But BURP is a framework. Theoretically BURP will work with any opensource renderer that uses the same input file for all frames.
All it takes to make another renderer available is adding a few classes in the server part and compiling the renderer with a few extra lines of code on the client part.
However, this is not the time to add more renderers since everything is still being tested and is being reworked all the time.

- In what format will we recieve our work. (Uncompressed AVI, DivX, DV, BMP's)

32 bit w/alpha full quality PNG for the sessions that you submit yourself.
Divx-like AVI compressed with 3 different quality configurations for sessions that others submitted (obviously if you like to download it that way for the sessions that you submitted you can always use that option instead of the raw PNG files).

And another one:

No work from project / No WU\'s to download / There is no work from project / When will there be work from the project / When will there be WU\'s to download

Answer:

This project is in pre-alpha, any work unit sent out has a _purpose_, and there will be no units sent out unless there is something that needs testing. Therefore, you are unlikely to get too many workunits until the project enters alpha stage, until then just leave burp in the boinc project list and let it download workunits if it wants to. Have another project in the list to burn CPU cycles if, and when, BURP has no units.

Great,
This Post aswered my questions.I was wondering why my gkreml was showing Burp running at same time as a sulpher unit.Went to KSgaurd {Monitor for Linux}
Ram was missing lots. Will keep reading these threads for Knowledge.Have been
watching \"Burp\" as soon as I joined B.S.,and it appealed to me.
Hope to get-up and crunching again.Boinc crashed when Burp was running{suspended}.And this thread explains Thabk you.First ever Breaking Lightbulb {crash} when running an Experiment, assides from Xtreme.Jumped out
of my chair.Think I will change the crash sound to a blahh horn.LOL
Have Reallyt been searching why I cannot get Boinc synergy sig here.
Am typing:{without \"\"} \"
Will keep trying.Must be a typo.
Sincerely
Doug Sluger Worrall

Q: I can\'t play the videos I downloaded from the completed sessions

A: There are several solutions.
1) Get the VLC Player from VideoLan.org. It is available for many platforms, comes bundled with many codecs and plays a bunch of video/audio formats
2) Get MPlayer from MPlayerHQ.com. Like VLC MPlayer is available for many platforms. As a sidenote: The videofiles here at BURP a encoded using the encoder of MPlayer.
3) If you still want to use your favorite mediaplayer under windows, you can use the open source project ffdshow. Binaries are available at: Free-Codecs.com.

That MplayerHQ site looks like a spam site. And I had my AVG pop up a virus warning soon after. Had to move a file to the vault.

The website is http://www.mplayerhq.hu but it seems to be only for linux.

Anyone know of a program that could read and edit Burp avi on windows?
