What did the total render time end up being? Just short of 3 calendar years?

Too bad I came to the party so late, would have been nice to net my team a recognizable slice of the pie... Looks like xPOD came out the winner, as usual.

Hehe yeah, he did get quite a lot of the pie =)

@Contact and DoctorNow, happy that you like it. I too think that it would be awesome with a longer movie. The Blender Foundation typically create their movies in a very short timespan where the artists are invited to Amsterdam for the stay - this puts some limits on just how much can be done for each production. Personally I'm always surprised to see the quality of their work given their limited production resources; a case in point is that Big Buck Bunny almost didn't reveal any flaws in the original material when scaled to 4K.

@Watch-Video: A bit of a shame what YouTube did to the video. It looks like it is 720p ~30 fps

Good question actually. We weren't rendering all the time - a lot of time was spent waiting for me to prepare scenes or do upgrades on BURP. It is going to be interesting to see a total progress graph over the years. We can pull that kind of info when cleaning up the Sunflower data after new year.

Can we have the rest of the files now?

Why are some of the files greyed out on the download site?

A couple of people have asked about the order in which files are being published on the mini-site and why not all files are available right now.
The plan so far is:
4K 3D 60fps tomorrow
Native 2D 60fps around Xmas eve
Native 3D 60fps around New Years eve
4K Anaglyph 3D early January
The reason why not all files are published simultaneously is three-fold:
1) We don't have them yet. They are being encoded with insanely high quality encode settings and that simply takes time to do. Also, merely reading the data files from disk without doing anything to them takes around a day.
2) There was no reason to have the native resolution (4000x2250) files available early in the launch because the number of people who find these useful is quite likely a very small number; and they likely overlap heavily with the people who would much rather have the raw files (which are already available).
