I noticed that the blender process memory usage was up over 9Gb. This is a bit of a problem for me given that I only have 12Gb. The BURP client was the only blender process running at the time.

Is there any way of managing this better?

This was the task:
7/08/2011 2:39:27 PM BURP Resuming task ses0000001198frm0000000029prt00001_0 using sunflowerblender version 481

Rebooting did not help. Aborting the task freed the memory immediately but the next job ate up the same amount of memory after running for about 5 minutes.

The next task is:

7/08/2011 3:36:13 PM BURP Starting task ses0000001198frm0000000030prt00001_3 using sunflowerblender version 481

I checked my processor and memory preferences. Memory is set to use 60% when the machine is in use and the activity is set to run based on preferences.

BOINC doesn't seem to always honor those prefs. If you set memory usage to max 60% always (not just when in use) then you won't get these big workunits.

Alternatively make sure that you have enough swap (At least 12GB) to allow it to flip BURP to paged disk memory when you are using the machine, then you shouldn't have any memory issues.
