Message 11407 - Posted: 6 Jul 2012, 18:52:14 UTC

Hi, I think it's been here a few times, How to setup a BURP for use, and I'm asking again.

I'm asking, because all threads about it is really old.

I have some problems with BURP and BOINC server and I wanna fix it.

1. I can't connect, because I have VirtualBox on Windows 7 and if I connect in Debian by 127.0.0.1 it find it a http://debian/ and thats not valid adress.

2. I can't setup BURP, because I can't install gpac, I'll install and compile it succefully, but I can't find MP4Box and BURP can't find it too.

3. BURP changed my project, and because it can't find MP4Box, it stoppedin the middle of work, it's unusable now (but I'm working on it)

I'm making BURP project for me because I can't find any good and still developed Network renderer, that not need that app installed on client-side PC (yes, BOINC install it, but on background). I want only step-by-step instructions how to setup BURP on Debian and (if someon knows) how to connect BOINC on server, that runs on localhost.

Thanks for reply.

1. VM settings -> Set Network card 1 to NAT. Then click Port-forwards and add TCP port 80 and your tomcat port, typically TCP port 8080 (if you want to use the admin UI outside your vm anyways). Your host machine will now redirect requests on those ports to the guest OS.

2. Notice: MP4Box has big letters in the name.

jbk@brick:~/$ MP4Box
The program 'MP4Box' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install gpac

3. The setup script has always been very experimental since there is very few people working on it and documentation for it.
Installing the BURP server is hard.
If you do go through all the efforts of doing it anyways please write down a step-by-step guide in the process.

My recommendation is to skip the setup script for now (if you got all the way to MP4Box it has already set up the important parts) and instead set up the backend server first: How to install the BURP backend on Gentoo, That guide is for Gentoo, so paths and so on are probably different for Debian, alternatively you can use your favorite application server. I attached the most recent .war to that page for you. The .war file contains all of the BURP server except the BOINC frontend - it autoinstalls itself when you connect it to BOINC the first time.

Currently the project does not provide VMs of complete BOINC+BURP installs.

Oh, sorry, strange, I've installed MP4Box from source, but BURP don't recognize it, and I think it's not in that directory, where it need to be.

OK, Debian isn't the right for this I think, I can't use packages like gpac or boinc-server-maker and I must reinstall apache, because my BOINC webserver doesn' work, and after reinstalling, still nothing, after I try to install it on Ubuntu, I'll post new message here.

:)

I've downloaded 700 MB ISO in 2 minutes

:O

Guy, I got one problem. When I connect to my server, I get message after register: An Error has occured.
I've looked into log and see this line:

12.7.2012 13:34:31 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site

Where's the problem? The error is both on system, Ubuntu and Win7

Check the scheduler log in the logs directory and the apache log (typically in /var/log/apache/access)

With old versions of BOINC you may need to restart BOINC to get it to update its DNS lookups.
Alternatively you can use the ip to sign up directly if DNS isn't working at all or is giving out wrong answers and you, for some reason, cannot fix that.

You will have to be a little more specific than that.
