Hello, I joined some machines to burp recently, but they obviously never get any work units...
what might be the problem? Some of the machines are in the school where I work, so they might be firewolled, which I doubt(colleague is succesfully using boinc for some SETI data crunching)
but my laptop also never downloads a job. Might that be some kind of setting in boinc or my account?

It looks like occasionally your machines do get jobs but they just sit there waiting and eventually abort the jobs. Please check that your computing preferences allow jobs to run. Typical issues include setting the memory limit low (the work will be downloaded but the state will forever be "Waiting for memory"), setting "Suspend work while computer is in use"=yes but always having the computer in use, something else is using the CPU etc. etc.

Open the event log on any of the problematic clients, it should let you know what is going on.

One other thing (and I don't know whether it even applies in your case but here we go): The very first line in our rules and policies says that you should be very careful about which machines you run BURP on. A few years ago an IT admin got fired from a school for (amongst other things) running BOINC on the machines there without authorization. The whole thing caused quite an uproar because the whole ordeal was quite messy but the point remains: Be 100% sure that you have your back covered, a written statement from management is probably the best way to go.

Thanks for replies.
I will check the computers when I get to work again.

Well I am employed as animator , so this actually enables me to do my job better, so I am not very afraid of getting fired.
I also communicated with our entwork admins, they said it's not totally ok with university rules, but on the machines in our lab can be tolerated...

checked at least on my laptop. My laptop allready downloaded tasks, but didn't run them. still have to check properly what happens. Default settings don't work, and I also set the most allowing settings possible(everything on always active), and still, the tasks don't run....
