Every time I update burp, the request is acknowledged but no work is released. This has been the results since installation about a month ago.

I think we will have to wait until the memory upgrade is done on the server, before there will be more WU's

As you can read on the sidebar to the left, the project status is still pre-alpha. That means we won't get as much WUs yet as in other projects which reached alpha, beta or even "production" status. That's normal. Just don't care about it. As long as BOINC doesn't get insane and wants to retry to connect in over 2 days (that's what happened to me at the last downtime) everything is fine and you will get work when there is any. Or just recheck this website every few days; usually Janus announces when a new session is about to start.

The last we could read was that there we currently submitted enough results for Janus to keep on debugging the current client software. He also wrote about the Linux (and Mac?) client being continued to work on. However, we are still waiting for the memory upgrade to the server (about September 20th; we had a few issues with the database one session ago). I don't think there will be any work until the upgrade was successfull. Usually, Janus starts at least one internal session to test new features (they don't have to be finished). Just visit the last session at the session gallery and increment the session number by 1: http://burp.boinc.dk/session.php?id=136 I think he is/was testing our new mirrors, but as I said: You should not expect any work to be released publically until the memory upgrade was completed. Possibly there could be a new session for us at the end of this month but as I'm not involved in administration/development of this project and only a normal user just like you, you should not rely on this. ;)

I have been getting this same message since I signed up 4 or 5 months ago. :-(

Well all i can say to you is where were you for all the test runs. I have gotten credit for the work done on this PRE-ALPHA project. And don\'t forget pre-alpha is not production!

There\'s not really any news to give you except that I\'m compiling the client for Linux right now. Hopefully I\'ll have it working within a few hours so that a new test can start tomorrow.
Nothing is certain as it all depends on how well the compile goes.

After I signed up I wasn\'t getting any work for about a month. So I gave up. I\'m sorry but all the other projects I support I was getting work as soon as I had the account set-up.
I did check \"in\" every couple of weeks or so to see if there was work available but no luck. Well here I am with no credit to show.
Fortunetley other projects like LHC , Einstein , Seti did have work for me.
I don\'t feel bitter about BURP i just feel disapointed that I was not given the opportunity to contibute to the project.

That is one of the things I really like about BOINC, when a project like this one or LHC have work I\'ll usually get some and I don\'t have to do anything it just happens when it is ready. When there is no work the client will just wait and try again later.

That\'s exactly why I don\'t understand that some people leave inactive projects. I participate in 4 \"productive\" projects (Predictor, LHC, Einstein, Rosetta) and whenever there will be work for BURP it will get downloaded and get active due to a very high resource share. I\'m also waiting for another project, orbit, to start some day and when it will be ready I won\'t hardly have anything to do to make it run.

I don\'t understand why that works for you, given that BURP has known problems with suspend or otherwise sharing with other BOINC projects. I know some people dedicate a rig to BURP, but those of us with only one don\'t have that option.

For now I stay subscribed to the news feed, and after Janus posts that work is coming I\'ll back up BOINC, suspend the other projects and let this one monopolize for a while. I let it run that way overnight, but this run is so large :) I just shut off its workflow so I can switch back to multi-project mode later today.

Looking forward to the day when BURP plays well with others so I can let BOINC handle this the way it\'s designed.

I believe the issue of taking other slots has been fixed. I have only seen it happen once about 4-5 sessions ago. I have no problems with the suspend either, I think that has been fixed also, if not minimized. I just leave BURP to request work, when it does get work, it will go into EDF mode because of the current short report deadline. I usually do suspend the other 12 projects I am running to get as much BURP as possible.

Interesting. I was going by the known problems list on this site, but also I accidentally aborted a BURP wu that had not been started. When it got to that work unit it reported the abort then blender just stopped running. Since I was running only BURP, the cpu was idle ... it was in fact the sound of the fans slowing down that alerted me to the problem.
I had to restart the client to get blender started again.
That seemed to support my impression that the BURP client doesn\'t handle interruptions or unusual (as in, anything but a single run-to-completion) circumstances.

If the suspend and slot problems have been fixed I\'d like to request this be updated on the Known Problems section of this site. Thanks.

I suspended a WU at 50% complete, will see how it crunchs when it restarts when the other WU is finished.

Just remember that the only suspend-option that the glue application for Blender supports is suspend-to-memory.

Yep, suspended WU resumed just fine. I do leave WU\'s suspended to be left-in-memory.
