I managed to get BOINC and BURP to work after many hours of testing settings (it was hard to get it to work, but luckily I've been running BOINC for several year with other projects, so I know my way around it).
So success, got a WU downloaded and now is stuck "Ready to start"...left PC on all night to no avail...still not doing anything, I've run out of ideas as to what the problem might be.
BTW, I'm running Vista64, 8Gb RAM and a GT520Nvidia GPU

Do you have any other tasks that are taking precedence?

Oooops...my bad, I forgot to mention that I had manually suspended ALL other projects during the process of getting BURP to work.

Also this morning something happened, the WU that got downloaded and was stuck, decided to get aborted on it's own and now there is nothing being downloaded or done.

I still have the other projects suspended to commit all resources whilst I get BURP to work and not overcomplicate things at my end.

Thanks in advance

"Ready to start" typically means that it is waiting for all of the conditions in your computing preferences to be fulfilled. If you are in doubt which one it is you can try to reset the prefs and then reapply them one by one. Sometimes it also says which one is causing the delay in the client log (available from the menus).
Alternatively you can post it here and someone can probably help figure out what is going on.

When the server sees that your client downloads work but doesn't seem to finish it in time (for whatever reason) it will eventually cancel the job instance and reassign it to someone else. That is what you saw happening with the aborted workunit.

Thanks @Janus, I double checked the settings and they seem to be more than enough for the project, hence why I left it running all night because as I know a render can take a fair amount of time and resources, I wanted to give it enough time to do it's thing.

Now as far as the aborted unit it kind of caught me by surprise that it did it right when I decided to have a look @ BOINC and then the whole thing just went dead...nothing to compute or download.

Anyways, thanks again for your input...BTW today I got a WU downloaded and I noticed straight away that it differed from the previous one (the one that self-aborted) as the new one downloaded 6 files rather than the 3 it did before, so my guess is that the first one was aborted because it was missing something to crunch/render the frame...don't know just a wild guess.

Will keep posted

As promised, here's an update. The WU downloaded on Thursday didn't start and got aborted (message from BOINC's log)"11/23/2014 3:24:01 PM | BURP | Aborting task ses0000002513frm0000000281prt00001_1; not started and deadline has passed
"
Downloaded a new WU and again stuck @ "ready to Start"...I changed the resources shared amongst the projects and BURP has almost 90% assigned but still doesn't start crunching/rendering.

Such a shame that I'll have to drop it as I haven't got the time to sit and change settings one at a time to get it to work...if I do manage to get some time in the future I will surelly be here crunching/rendering helping out as much as I can :-(

For anyone interested, I uninstalled BOINC, did a cleanup with CCleaner, rebooted the PC, reinstalled BOINC and now it's crunching numbers/rendering
