Filmic Blender is an OpenColorIO profile by Troy Sobotka what gives you access and control over the full dynamic range.
To understand what this is just watch these two movies explaining the method what is a standard in film production pipelines.

"Filmic is an optional color configuration for intermediate to advanced imagers using Blender’s Cycles raytracing engine. It adds a closer-to-photorealistic view transform for your renders."
The installation is simple. You need to download the ZIP:
You replace the contents in
with the files in the ZIP.
In Blender Scene>Color Management you set
View: Filmic Log Encoding Base
Look: Base Contrast (or another Look you prefer)
FROM NOW YOU MUST RENDER IN OpenEXR Float (Full) IF YOU NEED TO DO A COMPOSITING AFTERWARDS. Because this contains the full dynamic range.
If you don't need to post-process the result you can set the output to PNG-16bit or any other format. This will bake the Filmic LUT (Look Up Table) into the file.
The Compositing scene also has to use the Color profile you used for rendering. Use PNG for output. I would recommend to save a Startup File with this. Blender Guru talks about the actual limitations of compositor nodes not supporting Filmic Blender. This will be fixed in the next release of Blender where Filmic is implemented.
For BURP you have to set the render output to OpenEXR Float (Full).
I made a test with session #3332. I had set to OpenEXR Float (Half) and received PNG but with the correct look.
From now you never should use the standard sRGB color transform again.
Happy Filmic Blendering! :-)

Can we use filmic on the render farm? :O

False colour, log, raw, film, rrt, filmic and default seem to be the colour profiles available with the current version available on the farm.
You may have to request the use of EXR in the upload description if you need that, since that's still an experimental feature.
