Just in case there is a misconfiguration, I wanted to put something in here about the run length of these work units.

So far I am seeing estimated times of over two weeks on an 8 core (dual xeon 5607) with 24 gigs of RAM. Does that seem excessive to anyone else?

I aborted the first WU after 6 hours just in case it was glitched... second one is slightly faster at something like 14 days instead of 18. for a single WU.

Just returning to BOINC after a long time away, so maybe this is normal now?

Ignore any stats bionic give you about burp i have found! Just let it run...

If however it is still taking hours after someone with a similar system spec to you has rendered it in much less time then yeah maybe an issue, for example, someone with a similar system to you is working the same unit and they have done it in 4 hours yet yours is at 6, i would scrap it...

Burp also doesn't seem to care about ram, its only running blender... its all about the cores and performance of said cores! Mines using 298,492k of ram.

Honestly there is nothing wrong. its a bug!

I don't know what the bug is or how it works but ignore it and let it fold :)

I don't believe it's bug,.. But as was told: Don't relay on BOINC ETA

It's hard to predict render time. Each render is different, even each frame could be different for required CPU time.

This particular render seems for over 8 hours of work per workunit for your CPU (full 4 cores,...). Still it's guess each frame could be differet, once again don't relay on BOINC ETA.

What is a little annoying is that users with much less cores than myself are gaining more points for doing work slower than those with many cores and doing it faster...

Thanks for all the input and suggestions!

Here is a new issue that I just identified: The work units may complete in 6-8 hours, but the estimated time still says something like: "19 days remaining" so if you should restart your computer or otherwise cause BOINC to query the BURP servers, the server will see that the WU won't be finished by deadline, and will kill it. Then you start over with another one that will just as easily be killed.

The first time it happened, I didn't realize what happened... the second time I figured it out.

Also, one WU caused windows to go into a low memory alert state until blender was closed. That is on a machine with 24GB of RAM... well outside the posted limits.

Not complaining, just figured I would put it out here for other people in case you had the same situation come along. :-)
