Message 2011 - Posted: 28 Nov 2005, 1:57:16 UTC

Recently I began to get the following messages in the log:

Fetching master file
Master file fetch failed
Too many backoffs - fetching master file
Deferring communication with project for ...

and deferring time is constantly growing. When it have reached more than 1 week I decided to reattach. I successfully detached from the project but never could attach again. What does it mean, is the project now closed, or something is wrong at my side?

This means there is a communications issue somewhere. Probably not on your end. The best thing to do is just wait it out assuming that host has contacted successfully in the past. If you see a notice about work being available then a retry would be in order.

Additional info:

If I get it right, the master file is what is written at the end of the main page:

<!--
<scheduler>http://burp.boinc.dk/burp_cgi/cgi </scheduler>
-->

I can connect to the given URL manually, though I get message something like \"503 incomplete request received. you may be viewed this page with WWW browser\" and redirected immediately to the main page. So it\'s not communication problem. But another strange thing I have found. There are 2 files in the BOINC directory, master_burp.boinc.dk.xml and sched_reply_burp.boinc.dk.xml, which dated approximately when the last successful connection was. The problem that if I try to open them with IE, I get the following:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Required white space was missing. Error processing resource \'file:///D:/Program Files/BOINC/master_burp.boinc.dk.xml\'. Lin...

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC \"-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN\">

At the same time the similar files from SETI and Einstein are shown correctly.

On my other machine I have the same files, but it was detached from BURP in September, and shed_reply_burp there is OK. I can\'t open master_burp... there, but the error is quite different.

So it brings me to the conclusion that recently something has been changed in XML generation which caused the problems.

master_burp.boinc.dk.xml and sched_reply_burp.dk.xml are the same, though the first is 3 days older:

Hi Sergey!

Файлы master_burp.boinc.dk.xml и sched_reply_burp.dk.xml не должны быть одинаковыми. Первый содержит снимок главной страницы сайта (примерно то же самое будет, если выбрать View Source). Во втором файле содержится ответ планировщика - шедулера типа:

Files master_burp.boinc.dk.xml and sched_reply_burp.dk.xml should not be same. The first one looks like the main page of the site (see View Source). The second file contains scheduler reply like:

<scheduler_reply>
<scheduler_version>503</scheduler_version>
<project_name>BURP</project_name>
<user_name>Nikolay A. Saharov</user_name>
...
</scheduler_reply>

Try detach from the project, delete all BURP files from BOINC root folder, and reattach again. To the point, one of your prev posts contains a page having timeout error. Save that file as *.htm and open it.

And what BOINC version do you use? OS, CPU, network, etc?

</scheduler_reply>

5 minutes after I\'ve posted the file content I got myself that it\'s a standard error page ;)

Try detach from the project, delete all BURP files from BOINC root folder, and reattach again. To the point, one of your prev posts contains a page having timeout error. Save that file as *.htm and open it.

Deleting all BURP files didn\'t help, I got new line in stdoutdae.txt file:

doing RPC to http://burp.boinc.dk/get_project_config.php, file get_project_config.xml

and get_project_config.xml contained the same 10060 HTML error message.

And what BOINC version do you use?

And here you gave me a clue!!! I used the Trux\' optimized BOINC client 5.3.1 As a last resort I uninstalled it, installed the latest standard 5.2.12 instead, and - connected immediately and without any problems!

THANK YOU!!!

PS Though I still don\'t know what makes the difference and the 10060 error.

I got my \"master file fetch failed\" to clear by exiting BOINC CC, restarting BOINC and manual update on BURP. Downloaded master file okay.
