Hi folks,

I\'ve got two systems running - one 146 Opteron @2GHz and the other one with 3GHz Xeon CPUs - both with Vista64 and BM 5.9.10...

Now the problem is, that the Opteron is crunching WUs of session 450 in 2-10 minutes, but the Xeon takes up to 26hours!!! What the heck is the problem here?

Here the boinc benchmark result:
Opteron: 2000 Whetstones and 5200 Drystones
Xeon with HT: 1350 Whetstones and 1700 Drystones
Xeon w/o HT: 1600 Whetstones and 3500 Drystones

The Xeons performance is totally unacceptable! :(

Kind regards,
CC

If you look at the credit of the Xeon machine, are you getting over 100? It sounds like your Opteron is getting some of the small workunits while your Xeon is getting large ones. You can tell by the credit claimed for each. There doesn\'t seem to be any rhyme or reason to which machines get assigned which workunits. I have a couple of older machines crunching right now that will not even finish before their expirations since they are working on large ones, but at least the deadlines are not enforced yet anyway.

Hi,

surely is the Xeon claiming credits in the 300 region, but I believe that\'s purely due to the time it consumed crunching. I somewhat doupt that it\'s getting different WU\'s than my Opteron... Ofcorse I\'m notr sure though ;)

Kind regards,
CC

If your Opteron is getting credit down in the single digits, then it is getting the smaller workunits. I have a dual core Opteron crunching as well, and it has gotten both kinds of workunits, but only when it crunches the smaller ones, does it finish within a few minutes.

Okay! In that case it would be interesting how it\'s choosen which computer get\'s which WU... Both request WUs at the same time...

How much RAM do you have on each? BURP sometimes chooses PC by looking at the amount of RAM it has.

I would just look at the overall credit gain to see which system is better.
Contribution to BURP total: 0.5% (manually updated)
