vDayTest

Description

test of vday glitter scene
Just testing out how the renderfarming system works, to consider if I want to be a part of it. I am running the Bionic Client and plan on donating my processing power if its a good system.

Since most of the compute time is centered around the glass in the middle of the frame the parts/frame number was lowered to 1 - multiple parts doesn't really help much in a scene like this.

It seems the ProgressMonitor for the newly released clients was inadvertently left at its default time limit for progress reports from Blender. This session's workunits are getting close to the limit from time to time so they may actually trigger the ProgressMonitor at the default setting and get killed.
We will see whether it must be aborted entirely and the limit changed.

Don't know if it's a problem of this session or with the new Blender-app, but I keep getting errors and errors with every WU and my wingmen too, here an example.
And some like this one do error out immediately with error -6. What does that mean?

Will find out later today, shutting down workunit distribution until then.

Ok, found the issue. The Windows clients did not have a sufficiently new Glue version to handle the increased kill limit. Clients will be updated later today and work can then continue.

Should the non-Sunflower units be running multithreaded? The one I'm running from 1558 right now is only a single-thread task.

I think I'm pretty safe to say that non-sunflower work units only run one task per core/CPU. If I am mistaken please correct me.
Have a crunching good day

That's correct, the normal Blender tasks are not multithreaded but instead run multiple tasks in parallel. The difference has to do with the average memory consumption of the two client types - Sunflower typically uses more than 6GB whereas the normal sessions for the standard client typically uses less than 1GB. Since parallel tasks always give a speedup whereas multithreading sometimes gives a speedup the standard client will stay single-threaded at least until Blender improves a bit more on the multithreading part (already they have done a lot of work in this area).

Ouch, CreditNew strikes again: WU
29 Credits for 7,5 hours... That's not even 4 credits/hour.
Time for add an option to choose apps, I rather crunch SunFlower then. :-\

Heh CreditNew is kinda silly sometimes - most of the time actually. We might as well switch to static inflated credit like DistRTGen, at least it looks awesome in the combined BOINC stats.

Anyways, non-Sunflower work will also be covered in the "Payday" credit fix project, so eventually this will be fixed.

LOL, good idea. But hard to compare since this are GPU-credits. Although they are the most excessive credits throughout all GPU-projects, even the CPU-version gives way too much credits. It's kind of a wonder that David Anderson didn't complain at them yet, as AQUA was still alive he ordered them to lower the credits.

Anyways, non-Sunflower work will also be covered in the "Payday" credit fix project, so eventually this will be fixed.

Don't overdo it. ;-)
Some people may wonder later on what happened here when the stats for BURP are going skyhigh... :-D
