I started a new Linux VM for this session, but I can't get new work for some reason. The host record can be found here. The event log just says "No tasks sent" without an explanation.

EDIT: It turns out that I just needed to assign more cores to the VM.

VM stands for Virtual Machine. Instead of installing linux completely on that machine, I am running it from inside VirtualBox on Windows. The work on your website looks really good, so I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this project.

Thanks. I guessed it was virtual machine but wasn't sure what it meant.

It's going too slow. The windows part which was launched at the same time is almost finished while this one is at 6.3%
Would it be possible to jump this project to the windows farm ?

Did Janus do something ? It seems the render just took off.

Testing out dual-platform homogeneous redundancy rendering mode on this session. It is a new rendering queue that has both the Linux and Windows queues in it but assigns workunit instances systematically to hosts of similar type. In theory it should be a lot faster, but it only works for sessions where there is very little (or no visible) differences between the platforms.

It is essentially a system that micro-manages the splitting of the session between Linux and Windows so that site admins don't have to think about it.

Wow, that sounds really cool, but what do you mean by similar hosts ?
Since projects are already assigned to certain machines according to the memory limit set at upload time, what else is there to take in account ?
Anyway I hope it will work !

Is that the reason why it says "Blender (CPU)" instead of Windows or Linux ?

I can no longer receive tasks for my Windows hosts. The event log says "No tasks sent / Tasks are committed to other platforms".

Sounds less cool.
Can it be stopped at 50% (when frame 900 is done), since I rendered the rest with Sheep it ?

I'd still like to have the answers to my previous questions.

Wow, that sounds really cool, but what do you mean by similar hosts ?

This is a fairly large topic to cover in just a tiny post. To sum it up accelerated floating point calculations are not 100% guaranteed to be the same across different platforms. A platform is the combination of hardware (CPU), operating system and math-related libraries. "Similar hosts" are machines that are likely to have the same combination of those.

Since projects are already assigned to certain machines according to the memory limit set at upload time, what else is there to take in account ?

Same answer. You can see more in the BOINC wiki about how BOINC handles this. It does not solve the underlying problem but makes it so that the validation system is more capable of handling it.

Is that the reason why it says "Blender (CPU)" instead of Windows or Linux ?

Yes

Can it be stopped at 50% (when frame 900 is done), since I rendered the rest with Sheep it ?

No. Frames are queued into the system several days in advance and we are already past 900. We can stop at around 930, though. I modified the session for you.
In the future please try to minimize the number of changes to your sessions once uploaded.

I can no longer receive tasks for my Windows hosts. The event log says "No tasks sent / Tasks are committed to other platforms".

Yes, looking into that - it turns out that once a session gets near its end the Linux hosts will have several units locked to them and because there are so few Linux machines they will kinda clog up the queue a bit.

Yeah, the last % of my projects are always hanging for a while and seem to block the farm, what a pity. Other projects should start before the complete end.
