Chess Test2

Chess Test2

Description

a better version of my old chess test
I created a chess animation a long time ago, and wanted to render it as larger images. My computer couldn\'t handle it, and I knew BURP could. This is the motion-blurred version. ENJOY!

Hello there,

This is bizarre... Each 368 that completes makes my RAC go DOWN! Not a little bit... each and every unit (that I have seen) takes credit AWAY from the recent average credit score.

What is going on with that?

The total points still add up, but the average is stuck in reverse. Weird, eh?

Hi Janus,

I am not sure if this is the same issue. Let me give you the info, then you can tell me if it is this same issue or not:

Example:

I finish a 380 WU and have 425 RAC
I finish a 368 WU and my RAC drops 22 points to 403
I finish a 368 WU and my RAC drops 17 points to ...

All the way down to an RAC of 317, and falling.

It isn\'t NOT awarding points... it is subtracting them.

Let me know if this is related.

Thank you,

DN.

It is the same \"issue\". Janus writes:

There is a slight drawback to using this method, namely that it will pile up pending credit which will then be granted closer to the end of the sessions instead of troughout the session as usual.

RAC doesn\'t measure how much credit is awarded, but how fast it is awarded. Thus: more pending credit = lower RAC. Remember that RAC is a rather meaningless figure, total credit is much more \"important\", if you will.

EDIT: It does take unusually long for some results to be validated, however; Examples here and here. But that could be related to the Monday maintenance.

Thanks. What is fooling me is that the total credit is awarded normally on most of the units I paid attention to away, and the RAC still gets lower with every returned WU.

Fascinating.

Thanks again,

DN.

These results still need quorum of 3.

Is there a quick way to see which sessions are currently being rendered? I think it might be cool to have session progress on the main page, assuming there aren\'t too many running at any one given time.

Have a look at The server status page for more information about session progress.

Noted.

Seems so, thanks for pointing it out.
The server was quite loaded yesterday and it think it may have dropped a workunit or two. This is also why the new loadmonitoring system was developed - to avoid having website scraping bots make the performance of the system drop.

I\'ll kickstart the session again and we\'ll see what happens.

Yes frame 63 is unfortunately missing due to load-related issues. I\'ll trigger the completion script for the session anyways.

Edit: Woah, \"My computer couldn\'t handle it\" - not that surprising when looking at the time an average machine would have taken to render it. Are you sure you didn\'t tweak the quality settings a little bit too high, hehe? I did hear about chess sometimes being a slow game...
This is by far the most CPU intensive session ever rendered on BURP

also, since the scene uses raytrace, setting the octree-resolution to 128 or 256 for this scene would GREATLY increase its rendering speed.

Thats a long time to render on a single machine, like 3.5 years, lol. Luckily we had all these computers working on it and it only took 19 days, thats way faster.

What kind of information are people getting with scraping bots? I just don\'t get it... Who would want to scrape BURP?

They were scraping the host and result website - for stats I guess.

First of all: Sorry, that my script was too aggressive and putting the database load so high. I modified it, to work slower (waiting) between the page requests.

2nd: Sorry, for continuously scraping. I was testing the new implementations. After realizing that it puts too much load on the DB I\'m testing it on different projects.

I\'m planning to buffer the data in my database and making it remember the data for at least 24h. So no need for my script to scrape more than once a day per user.

Over a year ago, several times I asked to get the data - I\'m still scraping - as XML file, but there was no response...

Janus, please feel free to mail me at seti(at)andyk(dot)de if we can come together to solve the problem for both satisfyingly.

AndyK

What kind of data are you scraping that isn\'t available as XML already (ie. user stats)?

You may have a look at it at http://www.andyk.de/boinc/pc.php

It\'s mainly about pending credits.
In the xml files for download, there is no information about workunits/results whether they are pending or what they had for claimed credit and after approval granted credit, or how long it took to crunch them.
