I had a near scare with the power supply on helmsdeep earlier this week. I have a new one on order, but the server may be hit-or-miss for the next few weeks if the power supply decides to fail again.
I\'m also looking into a small UPS, so in case the power goes out, the server can gracefully shut down. Any suggestions on a small-scale one?

It seems the power supply is causing the system to hang when any heavy load is applied, so for the next few weeks, helmsdeep will be offline while parts are ordered and installed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Crossing my fingers for a problem-free recovery for you.
The mirror has been marked as \"disabled\".

Personally I\'ve been quite happy with the small \"APC backups\" UPSs. Most of them have a USB interface for reading off stuff like battery level and wattage drawn but I guess that pretty much counts for any UPS out there today.

Thanks again. Hopefully I\'ll have enough money through the holidays to get the necessary parts. I just don\'t want to trash the stuff already on the drive by browning the system out.

I\'m hoping to get everything together for the end of January, but it could be sooner or later. I\'ll keep you all in the loop.

Good news! A friend of mine has loaned me a system to use as a mirror while the parts are ordered and installed, so helmsdeep is back up, at least for a while. It\'s actually a faster system than the old helmsdeep, so I might keep this one and give my friend back the repaired system.

Either way, I\'m back.

Good news! [...] I\'m back.

Roger that, \"helmsdeep\" has been re-enabled and brought back up to sync.

I just moved the mirror and web server off the loaner and onto the new system I built.
It has a bigger drive, so some of the config settings were changed to reflect the increase in storage. Just let me know what happens , either if it breaks my mirror, or if it works as it\'s supposed to. I just wanted to give you some warning on what was happening on my end in case something horrible were to go wrong.

Thanks for the heads-up. So far everything is looking fine.

Helmsdeep is back down again...something\'s not sitting right with the server\'s recent change from Windows to Linux, and rather than run at degraded performance, I took the server off until I can diagnose and fix the problem. I should have it online and working again in about 48 hours (I\'m having a Linux-savvy friend look at it tonight).

It seems to be behaving again. If something goes wrong with it again, I\'ll be sure to post here and keep you all updated.
