Hello there Janus,

My machines that have 512MB of ram are failing to fetch work.

Apparently the background low priority rendering is made unavailable when a foreground task determines a machine not to have the resources to run the foreground task.

Apparently it doesn\'t cascade to the WUs which have more modest requirements.

Is there an easy fix for this, or do our 512MB machines have to sit idle until this task gets out of the way?

Thanks in advance,

DN.

It is clearly an undesirable effect of the current queuing system.

So far there is no easy fix for this. The BOINC people are currently re-evaluating the feeder and scheduler layout and here at BURP we are also changing some of the backend systems related to this in order to fix that particular issue (and other similar issues related to limitations in the feeder).
However, none of these fixes will be available right away, I\'m sorry.

Being able to direct alternative work to clients that don\'t meet the requirements for the higher priority sessions would certainly improve performance, and keep the rest of us in work...

Yes. The new scheduler will work with priorities in a different way - keeping different kinds of workunits in the cache at all times.
Unfortunately it is still in the drawing-board stage. You can follow the discussion here.
