Hello Janus,

All our machines report \"Project is Down\" when they attempt to communicate. Machines have been re-started to no avail, so I am assuming it isn\'t a bug in the clients we have here.

The news on the front page indicates the project is up. If it is down, please update the news, if it isn\'t, do you have any suggestions for my situation?

Thank you,

DN.

Hi,

I would say the project itself is up, but...

Look to the server status page.
At the beginnung of this page you see the different boinc server processes.
As you can see only the first one is running. This is the one to show everything on the web pages.
But for the boinc client you need the scheduler which is down at the moment.

=> it is normal you can not connect to burp.
Everyone has the same problem.

Anyway it would be nice to know what why they are down.
The good news is the 2.nd harddisk of the mirror is currently up and running.

Isn\'t this a \"monday maintenance\" thing?

The good news is the 2.nd harddisk of the mirror is currently up and running.

Sunday and yesterday a lot of the harddrives in the system were running extended self-tests, unfortunately this affected the performance of the system and eventually the weekly maintenance script produced a notice at one of the last steps (the one involving tidying up the result table). If a notice is produced it will not re-enable the feeder and scheduler but instead produce a warning for an admin to look into the issue.
Unfortunately I didn\'t see the warning before this morning.

The system has been manually started again. You may see a few \"no work\" messages in the start, this is just because the feeder gets a little overloaded right after an outage, just wait 30 secs and try again.

Sorry about the confusion.

I notice that there are two hosts listed in the status table; are there two servers running?

Well, yes and no.
Originally the project was run from a single server called \"Gandalf the Grey\" (GtG). We then migrated to a dual server setup where \"Legolas\" was introduced as main server and GtG served only as a data server. Unfortunately GtG died together with the statistics and development part of the BOINC.dk website because of old age.
After this we migrated entirely to Legolas. At this point the community had already set up a powerful mirroring network, so the loss of GtG didn\'t influence the project much - if at all.
Then Legolas\' motherboard decided to go haywire and took the CPU with it down. Through an amazing donation effort from the community we were back online after a very short time. This new system has not yet received its name (Gollum, due to it being a dual processor system - a ref to Gollum\'s dual personality) and is therefore still referenced as \"jbk\", which is the external domain name entry for the network.
Legolas is still around as a virtual machine running on Gollum.

In the future we may see the addition of an online-by-request server to take care of session pre-analysis as well as some of the more hardcore serverside features of v3 (sssh, v3 is a secret! We are running v2 aka. \"alpha\" right now...)
