Hello everyone! My name is Melloiguana, I wish I can use my real name but you know the issues, and I am new to this kind of renderfarm. I have a question if anyone is willing to answer about the two version of BOINC that I can install. Which version is more useful, BOINC standalone, or the BOINC+Virtuabox installation? What are the differences of the two? Is there any performance differences as well? Thanks for reading. |

The VirtualBox bundle is a new thing, you should be just fine with the vanilla client. I think VirtualBox is used by some projects to run Linux applications on Windows clients, but don't quote me on that. None of the projects I currently participate in make use of this technology yet. If a particular project requires it, they should have that info on their pages. Click here to see My Detailed BOINC Stats ![]() |

This project does not use it and I can only think of 2 projects off the top of my head that do: Test4Theory http://lhcathome2.cern.ch/test4theory/ RNA World http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/ I'm pretty sure there are a couple more and you can use it generically to set up a Linux box inside a Windows machine. - Steve |
