Is there any chance of burp supporting luxrender in the near future? Not only would it be a nice thing, but if the luxrender project files are accepted instead of .blends for that, the renderfarm would theoretically support 9 different softwares, including C4D, Maya and SketchUp.

Luxrender is most certainly topping the list of other suitable renderers that could run on BURP. It is open source, fairly mature and even has suspend/resume functionality which is sorely lacking from Blender. It is especially interesting since it supports OpenCL which opens up the possibility of rendering on AMD GPUs like the Cycles CUDA tests we ran earlier.
Although BURP is fairly loosely coupled with the renderers that run on it it is still a lot of work to add a new one.
Whether it will happen in the near future is really hard to say. In any case it would roll out in several stages - and only be officially supported after a good deal of testing.
